China Mobile Opens TD-SCDMA Handset Sales to Vendors

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) is opening up TD-SCDMA retail channels in Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shenyang, Xiamen and Qinhuangdao to handset manufacturers Yulong, Samsung, LG and ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ). Previously China Mobile has procured handsets itself for retail.
Yulong has already signed a deal with China Mobile which will give it access to China Mobile retail channels in the eight cities at no charge in order to sell TD-SCDMA handsets. China Mobile aims to have Yulong products in 20% of its outlets in these cities by the end of May, and in 50% by the end of June.
