A source with knowledge of the situation has revealed that negotiations between China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) and China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) have reached a deadlock over the demarcation of Unicom's CDMA network assets, with Unicom's dual GSM/CDMA base-stations being a major point of contention.
A figure connected with the telecom operators revealed at the 2008 Optical Telecommunications and Broadband Development Forum, held today at the Beijing Media Center, that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK), China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) and China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) will start their construction of 3G carrier networks in the next half year, most likely in October.
