ZTE Changes CDMA Strategy for China Telecom

CWW, 9/26/08

ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) CDMA products GM Li Jizhao said recently that China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) had made it known that it wanted mid- to high-end handsets to account for 60% or more of its procurements. To this end, ZTE will sell the high-end CDMA handsets it makes for the North American market domestically, and will also develop multifunction CDMA handsets for the Chinese market, such as Wi-Fi handsets.

Targeting PHS handset users transferring to CDMA networks, ZTE has designed a broad range of CDMA handsets from the mid- to high-end to lower-end handsets.
