Tietong to Operate Independently for 1-2 Years

Netease Tech, 9/26/08

A source at Heilongjiang Tietong revealed that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and China Tietong haven't merged in any real way, and that China Tietong will continue to operate independently for the next 1-2 years.

At present, China Mobile is focusing its efforts on developing TD-SCDMA, while China Tietong continues to lose money, meaning that any formal cooperation between the operators will take time.

Editor's Note: For more background on China Tietong's plans for how its merger with China Mobile would progress, please see "China Tietong: Three Steps to Merger with China Mobile", MD 8/13/08 issue.
