Rumor: Alibaba to Invest 4 Bln in Taobao

Sohu IT, 10/07/08

A rumor is circulating that e-commerce firm Alibaba is contemplating an investment of over RMB 4 bln in its C2C and B2C e-commerce site Taobao. Earlier this year at Taobao's fifth anniversary celebration, Alibaba CEO Jack Ma announced an RMB 2 bln investment in Taobao.

Another rumor has it that Taobao is considering making large-scale changes to meet the challenge of Baidu's (Nasdaq: BIDU) new C2C e-commerce platform. Proposed changes relate to the layout of search, module settings, channels, merchandise and stores, and will also incorporate changes to its marketing approach.
