China Telecom Establishes M2M Platform

CWW, 11/03/08

A source at China Telecom (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) recently revealed that the company has essentially completed its China Telecom M2M (Machine to Machine) platform, with the only remaining task to link the billing system into the company's management platform for general services.

Work started on China Telecom's M2M platform at the end of 2007. The platform is intended to provide a solution to problems the company formerly had with end-to-end data collection, management and relaying.

According to a spokesperson for China Telecom's Guangzhou Research Institute, this platform can already control second-tier terminals, including handsets, computers and other equipment located on ad-hoc networks connected to the platform. First-tier terminals are the network gateways that connect the ad-hoc networks to the platform.
