Chongqing Evening News, 11/10/08

Chongqing Cable TV has reduced the price of its digital TV set-top boxes (STB) from RMB 580 to RMB 493, and, for those customers who purchase one, is also waiving basic subscription fees for one year. In addition, the company is expanding its number of analog television channels from 6 to 8, for which it charges a subscription fee of RMB 5 per month.

The company is currently testing an interactive platform for its DTV services, and expects to be able to launch an interactive platform by year-end that will offer online shopping, gaming, traffic inquiry and ticket-purchasing services.

A spokesperson with the Chongqing broadcasting authorities said the goal for this year and next is completion of DTV conversion work for the 3 mln cable television users in the city and outlying suburbs.
