Qinghai Telecom, Unicom Begin Telecom Infrastructure Sharing

Sohu IT, 11/12/08

Qinghai Telecom and Qinghai Unicom have signed the Cooperative Framework Agreement on Resource Sharing and Joint Telecommunications Infrastructure Construction, and will begin to open their communications towers, machine rooms, access transmitters, fiber and electricity resources, pipes, pole lines, and indoor resources to one another through resource trading or rental for for-pay usage. New construction will be undertaken jointly. Both companies have also established workgroups to take charge of coordinating joint efforts.

Editor's Note: The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) and the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission (SASAC) jointly issued a notice in early October requiring all telecom operators to implement sharing and joint construction of telecom infrastructure. For more background, please see "MIIT Issues Telecom Infrastructure Sharing Notice", MD 10/06/08 issue.
