Rumor: Microsoft to Invest USD 1b in R&D in China

An industry source recently revealed that Microsoft has decided to invest USD 1 bln in its Microsoft China Research & Development Group over the next three years. The investment will support Microsoft in expanding the scale of its research and development efforts in China, and will be announced by the company on November 13 at the earliest. Microsoft China and the company's China Research & Development Group had no immediate comment on the matter.

The Microsoft China Research & Development Group is the largest research and development branch of the company outside Microsoft's headquarters in the United States, employing more than 3,000 people.
