Tianjin Completes 2G/3G Integration Tests

Xinhuanet, 11/16/08

Tianjin Mobile recently announced the completion of 2G/3G network integration trials in Tianjin. Soon any 2G Tianjin Mobile subscriber who switches to a TD-SCDMA mobile phone will not need to visit a service counter to register to upgrade to 3G, and will not have to change numbers or SIM cards. During the trials, core network upgrades were carried out based on the pre-existing GSM network, meaning that the TD-SCDMA and GSM networks will share the same core network.

Editor's Note: China Mobile's president Wang Jianzhou recently revealed that the company will implement a "Three Nos" policy in the second phase of commercial trials for its TD-SCDMA network. For more background, please see "China Mobile Reveals "Three Nos" Plan for TD-SCDMA", MD 10/06/08 issue.
