Foxconn to Lay Off Up to 40,000 Employees

Lee Jin Ming, chief accounting officer of Hon Hai Precision Industry, the parent company of consumer electronics outsourced-manufacturing firm Foxconn Technology Group, confirmed today that Foxconn would lay off approximately 5% of its Mainland China labor force. The company's downsizing plan has been submitted to the Shenzhen Municipal Bureau of Labor and Social Security; if approved, the plan will be implemented in the near future, affecting 30,000 to 40,000 Foxconn employees.

Foxconn employs between 650,000 to 700,000 workers in Mainland China.
