Shanda Literature May Sue Google

National Business Daily, 12/18/08

According to an authoritative source, Shanda Literature, a division of Shanda (Nasdaq: SNDA), has dispatched a number of lawyers to make contact with their counterparts at Google's Beijing headquarters, hoping to have pirated works deleted and blocked. If these discussions are not successful, Shanda may resort to legal measures.

Hou Xiaoqiang, CEO of Shanda Literature, said that currently writers on Qidian.com earn RMB 0.02 per thousand Chinese characters.

Yesterday president of Google China Kai-fu Lee said that Shanda Literature should deal with piracy at the source and that would then be reflected by search engines – but that Google could not be expected to look for the problematic results individually.
