Intel Opens Store on Taobao

CPU manufacturer Intel has joined with computer manufacturers and channel partners to establish an Intel-platform products store on Taobao, selling CPUs and motherboards, along with laptops.
The first batch of manufacturers involved include Haier and Tsinghua Tongfang, with their Intel-based laptops on sale. Intel indicated that it will work with more manufacturers in the future and expand the store to cover desktops and servers.
A Taobao spokesperson denied that Intel was trying to increase profits by cutting out retail channels, but some IT product dealers are still concerned that the move presents a threat to bricks and mortar shops.
