Tianyu to Focus on CDMA Terminals

Tencent Tech, 12/24/08

An official with Chinese mobile phone vendor Tianyu Communication Equipment has said the firm has decided on more than 10 CDMA1X products, with the first device using a Qualcomm CDMA1X chip to go into mass production in February 2009, and the first batch of products to reach the market by May. The products will be targeted at mid-range and low-end consumers. An EVDO data card will go into mass production in April, followed by a CDMA EVDO smartphone in May. In the second half of the year CDMA1X products will start to be sold overseas.

Tianyu plans to produce 20 different CDMA1X products in 2009, covering high-, mid- and low-end market segments.

Editor's Note: Yesterday, Qualcomm signed an agreement with Tianyu, granting Tianyu a worldwide patent license to develop, manufacture and sell CDMA2000(R) and WCDMA subscriber units and modem cards/modules.
