Foxconn to Restructure Factories, Move Workers

Sina Tech, 12/28/08

Hon Hai Precision Industry (also known by its trade name, Foxconn) has plans to adjust staff deployment in mainland factories, with a large portion of employees at the company's Longhua factory in Shenzhen expected to be transferred further inland. According to the plan, staff numbers will drop from 260,000 to 100,000 at the Longhua factory, with staff primarily moving to factories in Wuhan, Hubei province and Jincheng, Shanxi province.

Edmund Ding, spokesperson for Foxconn, revealed that the company has no plans for large-scale layoffs at its Longhua factory.

Industry insiders stated that preferential taxation policies and access to public infrastructure offered by third-tier cities had enticed Foxconn to move its operations further inland.
