China Mobile Starts Second Stage of TD-SCDMA Terminal Bidding

Sohu IT, 2/13/09

Sources with terminal manufacturers have stated that bidding for terminal procurement for cities involved in the second stage of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) TD-SCDMA rollout has begun. The bidding process will be largely managed by provincial branches, and representatives from the manufacturers have already visited relevant cities to place bids. Final decisions regarding the procurements will still be made by the China Mobile Group, with the handsets ultimately distributed for sale to individual China Mobile outlets.

This round of bidding will also include subsidies for manufacturers, with TD-SCDMA network access testing fees potentially dropping to one-third the price of 2G testing fees; the testing process is also to be expedited.
