Samsung Wins 35% of China Telecom 3G Terminal Contracts

In the first round of China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) 3G terminal equipment bidding, Samsung has won manufacturing contracts for 4 handset models, representing 35% of China Telecom's total order of 1.2 mln handsets. Handset manufacturer Yulong (owner of the Coolpad brand), also obtained contracts for 2 handset models.

Manufacturers who won bids from China Telecom Group, included Samsung, LG, Yulong, and Tianyu Communication Equipment (know abroad as Benephon). In addition Samsung, LG, ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Huawei, and Hisense (600060.SH) have negotiated specific contract terms with provincial China Telecom branches in Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Sichuan.
