Freecomm Enters Telecom Equipment Market

Oriental Morning Post, 2/18/09

The recently established Freecomm Data Communication announced in Beijing yesterday that it would enter the telecom network equipment market and compete directly with Huawei, Motorola, Nortel and others. Freecomm president Gu Guoping stated that the company's strategy was to carve out a place in the market, and profit was not currently the most important factor to consider. The company has set a goal of RMB 500 mln in sales within its first 3 years of operation, of which 2009 sales would come to RMB 150 mln.

Freecomm was established in Shanghai in November 2008 with RMB 100 mln in registered capital. The company has also established an American branch in order to attract venture capital and technical expertise, and has established a research laboratory in Silicon Valley.
