China Mobile: H1 TD-SCDMA Procurement to Focus on Data Cards

An employee with a handset manufacturer has revealed that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) will not procure TD-SCDMA handsets in the first half of this year, and will primarily rely on manufacturer distribution channels for handset sales. China Mobile's TD-SCDMA focus is expected to be on data cards, with the general trend in TD-SCDMA handset manufacturing moving towards China Mobile specifying general customization requirements from handset vendors rather than making procurements.

Handset manufacturers including ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), Nokia, and Yulong have all obtained customization orders for TD-SCDMA phones.
