2008 China Online Game Revenues Increase 76.6%

Sun Shoushan, deputy directory of the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), has announced that sales revenues for the Chinese online game industry in 2008 reached RMB 18.38 bln, up 76.6% YoY. The online game industry also led to direct revenues worth over RMB 47.84 bln for the telecom and IT industries. In 2008, 15 Chinese domestic online game companies sold a total of 33 games to over 40 countries and regions around the world, with sales revenue reaching USD 70.74 mln, an increase of almost 30% YoY. Sun also mentioned that in 2009, exports from the Chinese online game industry would be worth USD 100 mln.
