Alibaba.com Q4 2008 Net Profit Down 57%

Chinese B2B e-commerce firm Alibaba (1688.HK) has issued its earnings report for Q4 2008, with total revenues reaching RMB 805.9 mln, up 27% year-on-year. 2008 full-year total revenues rose to RMB 3.0 bln, an increase of 39% over the 2007 figure.

Net income attributable to equity holders for the quarter came to RMB 199.4 mln, down 57% YoY. Net income attributable to equity holders for fiscal year 2008 increased 25% to RMB 1.2 bln.

For the year, the number of registered users and online storefronts on Alibaba.com's marketplaces increased by 10.5 mln and 1.7 mln, respectively. Registered users for the company's international marketplace grew by 3.5 mln during the year to 7.9 mln, up 80% YoY. The company also added over 126,000 paying members in 2008.
