Changhong Invests RMB 150 Mln on Internet TV Content

Chinese consumer electronics firm Changhong (600839.SH) has invested RMB 150 mln to build an online content platform. Consumers who purchase the latest model flat-screen Changhong televisions can connect to the platform over the Internet from their TV sets, and download content including films, television shows, education programs and more.

A spokesperson for Changhong revealed that the platform was developed by its Shanghai-based subsidiary, Changhong Information Technology, and all the content is licensed from content service providers. In the future, Changhong Information Technology will also develop its own content and is in the process of applying for an Online Audio-Visual Broadcasting license from the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) in order to become an Internet TV content provider.
