Tencent Tech, 4/14/09

Shao Yiding, chairman and CEO of Chinese online video site Voole, said the video-on-demand website would try to shift to a user subscription business model. Since 2008 Voole has required users to pay-per-view for licensed film and television content. Currently Voole holds rights for over 2,000 films and 10,000 television episodes, and furthermore has signed licensing agreements with Hollywood studios including Warner Brothers, Sony, and Paramount, as well as Korean TV station MBC, Hong Kong's Media Asia Group and other domestic and international distributors. Shao also said the company had paid RMB 50 mln in copyright licensing fees by the end of 2008.
