BOE Starts Building 6G LCD Production Line in Hefei

BOE (000725.SZ) chairman Wang Dongzheng says the company has started work on an RMB 17.5 bln 6G TFT-LCD production line in Hefei; combined with the company's 4.5G and 5G lines, the new 6G line could take BOE to a (theoretical) annual production capacity of more than 35 mln LCD panels. Shenzhen-based Shenfang Lucky Photoelectron Materials will be the first supplier, providing TFT-LCD films and polarized panels, as well as AdvanTools photo-etching machines.
A technician at BOE revealed that the company has started R&D work on 3G display technologies that has already produced LED backlights that can be used on 40" displays, though at present the backlights are being provided only for custom orders rather than being mass-produced.
Editor's Note: Wang Houliang, director of the Hefei municipal Development and Reform Committee, says that within the next three years Haier, Changhong (600839.SH), and Konka (200016.SZ, 000016.SZ) will produce 10 to 11 mln LCD televisions in Hefei each year. Once BOE's 6G production line begins operation, it will connect with downstream enterprises. At present, Haier, Changhong, and Konka procure RMB 50 bln – 70 bln worth of LCD display panels a year.
Wang says BOE's 5G production line has brought investment into Hefei at a ratio of 1:6, and stimulated production value by 1:4. Over the next 3-5 years, it will drive another RMB 30 bln in industry investment; after it reaches maximum production capacity it will have an annual production value of RMB 80 bln – 100 bln, according to the 21st Century Business Herald.
