Kingsoft WPS Applies for Government Subsidy Program

China Securities Journal, 4/15/09

KAU Pak Kwan, chairman and CEO of Chinese application and online entertainment software developer Kingsoft (3888.HK), recently revealed that the company has applied for its WPS Office software to participate in a government-sponsored program to promote core electronic parts, high-end general purpose chipsets and key software products. Kingsoft hopes to provide users with WPS Office using a Software as a Service (SaaS) model in the future.

An industry source stated that if Kingsoft gains approval, the company could receive approximately RMB 100 mln in central government research funds, with that number rising to RMB 200 mln after the addition of funds at the local level.
