BOE Starts Construction of TFT-LCD Lab

BOE (000725.SZ) has been chosen as home to China's first state project TFT-LCD technology lab; work on the facility began yesterday.

The project integrates major domestic TFT-LCD technical research and upstream and downstream industry chain resources. The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) has provided RMB 15 mln in financial support for the project, which is slated to complete construction on the laboratory in June 2010.

BOE currently owns 4.5G, 5G, and 6G TFT-LCD technology, and is actively working on building an 8G production line, primarily for the manufacture of 32" and 37" displays. BOE president Chen Yanshun revealed that the company is currently undertaking technical and environmental feasibility studies for its planned 8G line, and has yet to reach a final decision.
