ZTE Q1 2009 Net Profit Up 29%

Chinese telecom equipment and mobile handset manufacturer ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ) has announced its financial results for Q1 2009, with operating revenues reaching RMB 11.67 bln, up 35% year-on-year.

Net income attributable to equity holders of the parent for the quarter came to RMB 78.66 mln, up 29.17% YoY.

ZTE reported year-on-year growth of 46.9% in its carrier network business for the period, driven mainly by revenue generated from 3G and GSM network building. Revenue generated from handset sales grew by 22.2% in tandem with growth in domestic sales of CDMA handsets and international sales of 3G handsets. Revenue from telecommunications software systems and services and other products grew by 3.6%, driven mainly by growth in the sales of video products and network terminal products.
