Unicom Records RMB 3.57 Bln Q1 2009 Net Profit

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has announced its unaudited financial results for Q1 2009, with revenues reaching RMB 37.9 bln. Comparative figures for previous quarters were not provided due to the company's merger with China Netcom, which came into effect on January 1, 2009.

Net income for the quarter came to RMB 3.57 bln.

Service revenue from the company's mobile business for the first quarter of 2009 was RMB 16.74 bln, equivalent to 25.9% of the total mobile service revenue from 2008. Average minutes of usage (MOU) per subscriber per month was 239.2 minutes and the monthly average revenue per user (ARPU) was RMB 41.3. Revenue from broadband services was RMB 5.76 bln and ARPU of broadband services was RMB 61.2. Excluding the effect of deferred fixed-line upfront connection fees, service revenue from its fixed-line business for the first quarter of 2009 was RMB 20.58 bln.
