China Unicom Deploys 77,000 WCDMA Base Stations

Major contractors of China Unicom (NYSE: CHU, 0762.HK) WCDMA networks stated that the 55-city first phase construction of its WCDMA network was completed on April 17. Currently, the construction has entered the optimization stage of development. In total, China Unicom has completed 77,272 base stations, of which 23,645 were supplied by Huawei, 20,527 from Ericsson and its partners, 16,522 from ZTE (0763.HK; 000063.SZ), 8,659 from Nokia Siemens Networks, and 7,897 from Alcatel-Lucent Shanghai Bell (ASB).

China Unicom's headquarters has already started offering 3G trial services in selected outlets, including processing of customer applications, after sales service, itemized billing inquiry, and other services.
