SARFT, China Mobile Ally to Promote CMMB+TD-SCDMA Handset

Numerous CMMB industry insiders have confirmed that the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT)'s China Satellite Mobile Broadcasting Corporation (CSMBC) has officially signed a cooperation agreement with China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK). According to the agreement, the two parties will jointly promote the development of TD-SCDMA handsets with CMMB functionality, with new products to be released soon through the cooperation.

A source at China Mobile stated that CMMB modules will be installed in China Mobile TD-SCDMA terminals.

An informed industry insider has revealed that SARFT has asked CSMBC to begin development of additional mobile terminal video content. According to the source, CMMB content could be promoted through bundling free and fee-based content on TD-SCDMA terminals.
