Rumor: Sina to Launch Twitter Clone in June

An industry source has revealed that Chinese Internet portal Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) will release a micro-blogging service similar to Twitter in June under the name Sina Friend. China currently has over 10 websites providing similar services, including Fanfou, SBTalk and Jiwai. In order to differentiate itself from its competitors, Sina plans to provide strong Chinese language support and integration with domestic mobile communication service providers and instant messaging tools. Other major Chinese Internet portals do not yet provide micro-blogging services.

A spokesperson at Sina said the company had not made any clear decision to offer such a service.
