Baidu to Increase Baidu Union Revenue Share

South Daily, 5/19/09

Ye Peng, COO of Chinese search engine Baidu (Nasdaq: BIDU), has stated that the company plans to implement a large increase to revenue sharing percentages for its more than 300,000 Baidu Union members, although Ye did not reveal specific percentages. Currently Baidu has paid over RMB 400 mln to Baidu Union members through its revenue sharing program.

Many webmasters from small- and medium-sized websites have complained that the Baidu Union revenue sharing percentages are too low. According to one webmaster, advertisers pay approximately RMB 0.20 per click, but webmasters receive only RMB 0.05 of that amount. With regards to revenue sharing, Ye stated that the challenge for Baidu was to maintain fast-paced business growth.
