Beijing Telecom Targets Campus Market

Communications Weekly, 5/25/09

Beijing Telecom recently opened its first on-campus outlet at Beijing University of Chemical Technology. A person from the Beijing Telecom department responsible for the development of new channels stated that, "within the year, we hope to cover at least 40 universities".

A person close to a member of Beijing Telecom's senior management divulged that a calling package for the Beijing campus market could be launched this month, with the possible name "Shishang Taocan" (literally: "Trendy Package"). Trendy Package mobile services have already launched in campuses of Shanghai, Sichuan, and other locations. Shanghai Telecom, for example, charges RMB 19 for its campus Trendy Package, which includes 360 free text messages.
