Yahoo Establishes Beijing R&D Center

Sina Tech, 6/09/09

At the ribbon cutting ceremony today for the Yahoo R&D Center in Beijing, senior vice-president Jeff Kinder said the center is not connected to the Alibaba Group, and added that its main purpose is to research and develop products for Yahoo's global operations. Kinder said the center, the third of its kind, will focus on search, advertising and end-user products.

Alibaba Group spokesperson Wang Shuaiceng said according to an agreement reached by both sides, the center will have only research responsibilities and cannot participate in China's Internet sector.
