MIIT: Telecom Operators Earn RMB 196 Bln in 2008 VAS Revenues

Wang Jianwen, deputy director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)'s Telecommunications Administration Bureau (TAB), recently revealed that the main telecom carriers' revenue from value added services last year reached RMB 196.2 bln, up 18.2% year-on-year. Presently the Chinese telecom VAS market is fought over by the major carriers, cross-regional VAS providers and provincial VAS providers. In 2008, the latter two groups took in RMB 24.6 mln and RMB 39.3 mln, respectively, in VAS revenues.
