MIIT: Software Industry Revenues to Exceed RMB 1 Trln

Zhao Xiaofan, director of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT)'s Software Services Department, said that China is on track to meet its goal of over RMB 1 trln in software industry revenues by 2010. Speaking at the 13th Annual China International Software Expo (International Soft China 2009), Zhao said that the target set in the 11th Five-Year Plan will be met before 2010, when the software industry will contribute more than 2% of GDP, which Zhao expects will eventually rise to 7-8%.

MIIT minister Li Yizhong said China's software sector employs over 1.8 mln people, and has 984 companies with sales revenues exceeding RMB 100 mln.
