Kids SNS Obtains USD 5 Mln in Funding

Chinese children's virtual world SNS site 51mole.com has received USD 5 mln in venture capital from Qiming Venture Partners. 51mole.com is operated by Taomee.com, the Shanghai-based company founded by Benson Wang, former head of QQ Pets for Tencent (0700.HK). The seed capital for Taomee.com was a personal investment from one of Tencent's founders, Jason Zeng (Zeng Liqing), and Sina (Nasdaq: SINA) senior VP Wang Bin.

Official figures show that 51mole.com now has 30 mln registered users and 10 mln active users. The site shuts off its servers from midnight to six AM every day, in order to promote healthy internet use by children.
