Alipay Users Hit 200 Mln

Sina Tech, 7/06/09

Alibaba Group's third party payment platform Alipay has announced that its user count has officially reached 200 mln. Alipay said that previously the record for most subscribed online third-party payment platform was PayPal with 180 mln, which Alipay has now surpassed to become the world's largest such platform.

Alipay president Polo Shao said that total transaction value handled by PayPal is still greater than that of Alipay, but he expects Alipay to beat PayPal in this category as well in the next three years.

Alipay's total number of users first reached 100 mln at the end of August 2008.

PayPal declined to comment.
