SMGBB Starts Beta Testing of Shanghai Online TV

Chinese media provider Shanghai Media Group's online video platform, Shanghai Media Group Broadband Broadcasting (SMGBB), has formally opened its Shanghai Online Television online rebroadcasting channel for public beta testing. The beta requires no download; users can simply visit the webpage to re-watch the past seven days of SMG programming from 10 different channels. The beta is currently open only within the Shanghai region, but in the near future will also be made available to the entire Yangtze River Delta region and potentially nationally and globally. In one week in open beta, the number of users has already exceeded 10,000.
Currently, Shanghai Online Television programming includes ten SMG television channels, among them Dragon TV, News, China Business Network, Five Star Sports, the Documentary Channel and Star Style. Soon it will also include live 24-hour feeds from eight radio stations including Donggan Yinyue ("Lively Music"), Love Radio, traffic news and Radio Shanghai. The website also provides interactive features, allowing users to watch a program on one side of the screen while simultaneously chatting about it with other viewers, or to select favorite videos for random playlists and to share with friends.
