Rumor: China Mobile to Acquire Telenor Subsidiary in Pakistan

Foreign media outlets have reported that China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) is in negotiations to acquire Norwegian telecom operator Telenor's Pakistan subsidiary. Though both operators deny that any such arrangements are being discussed, an industry source said that negotiations had reached the group management level. Telenor has 20 mln subscribers in Pakistan, but has long debated selling its Pakistan subsidiary due to "safety concerns."
