China Mobile to Charge for Mobile IM

A notice published yesterday on the official website of China Mobile's (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) Fetion mobile instant messaging service stated that the service will discontinue its free member service as of July 31, with new fees set at RMB 5 per month beginning August 1. While Fetion's basic service will remain free, paying Fetion members will enjoy eight additional privileges: accelerated point-earning and a larger friend limit (allowing them to add up to 500 friends), as well as the ability to create groups (maximum of 4), join groups (up to 12), display member status, be ranked higher, customize their names and post special content.
