China Unicom VP Visits Taiwan to Explore Opportunities

China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) VP Zhao Jidong began a visit to Taiwan yesterday, where, after meeting with Taiwan Mobile senior executives, he will also discuss possible cooperation with executives from Chunghwa Telecom and Far EasTone. Zhao's visit was prompted by a proactive invitation from Taiwan Mobile. According to an anonymous industry source, Unicom's agenda for discussions with the three Taiwanese telecom operators will focus on cooperation on 3G mobile Internet, content services, cross-straits undersea cables, and international data services. Among the topics on the agenda, China Unicom and Taiwan Mobile will discuss matters concerning the Tamsui - Fuzhou undersea fiber-optic cable as well as other undersea cables.
