Qihoo 360 Releases Update-Free Anti-Virus Solution

On September 15, Chinese security and anti-virus software provider Qihoo 360 unveiled version 6.0 of its 360 Safe Guard anti-virus software, featuring a new "360 Cloud Virus-Scan Engine" that boasts virus-scanning speeds 10 times faster than that of traditional anti-virus software. According to Qihoo 360 chairman Zhou Hongyi, the new engine departs from previous anti-virus software paradigms by eliminating the increasingly large and sluggish virus signature database, turning instead to an internet-based solution that no longer requires users to continually update their virus databases. The new software now maintains a connection to Qihoo's servers, which aside from hosting the virus signature database, also bear most of the processing burden involved in a virus scan.
