Rumor: Unicom iPhone to Start at RMB 1,999

Ccidcom, 9/18/09

An industry source has revealed that the retail price for the China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) version of the iPhone has been set at RMB 1,999 for the 8 GB version, provided that subscribers buy it bundled with a two-year RMB 186 monthly commitment. The iPhone 3GS (with the same two-year, RMB 186/month commitment) will be priced at RMB 2,999. Customers will also be able to prepay RMB 6,000 over an 18-month period to receive an iPhone 3GS at no extra cost. The Unicom iPhone 3G reportedly does not support Wi-Fi "for the time being," but Unicom is in communication with the relevant government organs regarding the matter.
