Ctrip Acquires Local Travel Agencies

21st Century Business, 9/22/09

Guo Dongjie, deputy GM of vacation services for CTrip (Nasdaq: CTRP), says the Chinese travel site will increase its investment in vacation services. The providers of vacation products are mainly local travel agencies. CTrip has begun acquiring local agencies, and established a subsidiary in the popular beach resort city of Sanya this May. Guo said the company plans to continue its acquisition of local travel agencies in ten major tourist destinations including Lijiang, Guilin, and Sichuan, enabling it to directly provide tour guide, car rental, and entry ticket services through local acquisitions and partnerships.

Guo said CTrip vacation services will mainly provide products and services through direct online sales, and will adopt a nationwide unified strategy of procurements, management, and basic marketing.

CTrip's vacation services currently account for approximately 8% of overall services.
