Rumor: Apple, Unicom App Stores to Co-Exist on iPhone

DoNews, 9/24/09

A source within China Unicom (NYSE: CHU; 0762.HK; 600050.SH) has reported that both the Unicom "Wo" App Store and the Apple App Store will co-exist on the Unicom iPhone.

The source said this was the result of Apple's refusal to agree to a revenue sharing plan with Unicom for the App Store, giving Unicom no choice but to open a rival mobile applications store. Unicom has already arranged for a number of applications from developers to be sold on its Wo Store platform.

Other industry sources claim the Wo Store is in fact identical to the App Store, but cannot use the trademark name in China.
