Sogou Releases Cloud Technology-Based Input Method

PConline, 11/03/09

On November 2, Sogou, the search property of Chinese internet company Sohu (Nasdaq: SOHU), released a new "cloud input method editor," a concept product based on its former Sogou Pinyin input method editor, that makes use of cloud computing technology. The new input method editor differs from existing IMEs in that it requires no installation; the software relies on servers for all processing, meaning that any user with an internet connection can make use of the editor, which offers more functionality and a richer IME lexicon than other input methods and boasts a 90% accuracy rate for conversion of Pinyin input and a greater than 96% accuracy rate in selection palette first-choice display for short-phrase input.

At present, the new cloud input method editor only works on webpages. The new IME is compatible with Windows, Linux, and Macintosh systems, and will work on all mainstream browsers (e.g. Internet Explorer and Firefox).
