China Tightens Online Game Regulations

Netease Tech, 11/18/09

China's Ministry of Culture has issued a notification regarding online game content management, proposing the establishment of a system for online game operators to self-regulate game content.

The notification further requires online game companies to develop alternative game formats to the "hack and slash" model centered on gaining experience points and leveling up, as well as further restrict both violent and romantic encounters between players as well as restrict both registration and gameplay for minors.
