China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) and Chinese automobile manufacturer Chang'an Motors (000625.SZ) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to develop a new automobile that utilizes 3G wireless communications and machine-to-machine (M2M) communications technology.
Chang'an CEO Zhang Baolin said that the "3G Car" would feature a 3G communications package that would relay the vehicle's status in real-time to an external server, allowing for remote surveillance, control, and management. In addition, through support from third-party providers, 3G Car occupants will be able to use GPS and navigation services, browse the web, stream audio and video, send and receive e-mail, compose documents, and even conduct small-scale videoconferences.
