China Telecom Launches New Open Development Platform

Molei.net, 12/02/09

According to a representative from China Telecom's (NYSE: CHA; 0728.HK) research institute, China Telecom's "Open Abilities" initiative has been listed as a major national project.

Currently, a beta of China Telecom's "Ability Factory" (http://open.ctfactory.com) is available. The website was created by local operator Sichuan Telecom.

The "Open Abilities" initiative is composed of two major parts: the "Open Abilities" platform and the E-Surfing applications factory.

Through the platform, China Telecom will provide a unified multi-level open interface to a number of services based on existing core IMS and ISAG network resources. Some core services, like SMS, IVR, voice communication, and location-based services will be opened to regular developers via the platform. Developers will be able to apply for and employ such resources in their open applications.

The application factory will provide developers with a broad collection of freely-available APIs from a large number of internet providers.
